Questions & Responses

What is your vision for our community and how does your past experience make you the best qualified candidate to execute this vision?

My vision is for Bloomington to continue to be a welcoming community where residents, businesses, and organizations work together to build a city that honors its history while embracing opportunities for growth. I will leverage my corporate project and collaborative experiences to help foster a place where people feel connected, valued, and empowered to contribute to a strong economy, a healthy environment, and a sense of belonging.

What is your position on the current water quality issue in Bloomington?

I believe the city's response to the water quality issue is appalling. While the water is safe to drink, being told that we will "get used to" the obvious odor and taste issue is unacceptable. This issue is affecting local businesses to the extent that restaurants are resorting to bringing in bottled water to cook with and serve their customers. The city has stated they will work to address the issue "later in 2025". I believe there are simple steps we could take now to address this issue, starting with simple carbon filtration. I will push hard for the city to implement changes to address the "aesthetic" odor and taste issue immediately if I am elected.

What is your position on Affordable Housing?

We can best support development of affordable housing and our overall economic growth by making real estate development transactions more simplified and streamlined, starting with addressing restrictive zoning laws and lengthy permitting process. Continued infrastructure improvements, revitalization efforts, and housing redevelopment incentives will ensure a strong real estate future and enable our community to thrive.

How would you encourage diversity in municipal government, boards and commissions to better reflect the community at large?

To promote diversity in municipal government, I would advocate for fair access to boards and commissions by simplifying the application process and providing outreach to underrepresented groups. I would promote offering support like flexible meeting times and  locations to help remove barriers. I would encourage increasing transparency in meetings and regularly reviewing progress to ensure the city remains representative and responsive to all residents.

What is your understanding of the Alderman role and if elected, how would you build consensus and foster teamwork with other elected and appointed officials?

The Alderman position is all about service-serving the people, being responsive to their needs, and working towards the betterment of the community as a whole. As a team, we must work together to build consensus for the well-being of the entire city while balancing the needs of our specific wards. Building alliances, negotiating, and finding common ground with fellow council members is a key part of the role. As well, fostering a relationship with the mayor and city manager are key to ensure each ward’s needs are met in city-wide initiatives.

Local governments facing revenue shortfalls often look to real estate taxes, regulations and fees. Are you aware of a revenue shortfall in the city? If so, what are your plans/ proposals to address this shortfall?

Revenue shortfall in the city are evidenced by a continually increasing budget. This year the budget is approaching $350 million. We need to take a fresh look at spending. My creative and technical background allow me to bring fresh perspective and innovative approaches to solving costly problems like infrastructure upgrades without turning to additional real estate taxes.

What specific actions will you take to support a vibrant economy in our community, including the downtown area?

The already-approved Streetscape rendering is truly stunning. A beautiful city is something everyone desires, and this project is a significant step toward that vision. By enhancing the downtown area, it will encourage new foot traffic to local businesses, providing a positive boost to the local economy. I will collaborate with local business groups, such as the Chamber of Commerce and business owners, to strengthen partnerships between the city and the private sector, fostering economic growth and business development. Additionally, I will work to identify hurdles for developers and will look for ways to remove those hurdles to make it easier for businesses to start, grow, and thrive in our community.

Where do you believe the city can tighten its financial belt?

I believe there are opportunities to reduce spending starting with the following:

• Reducing spending on outside consulting including lobbyists
• Streamlining processes
• Sunsetting redundant boards, commissions, and extra work that are not required and yet require staff time, such as OMA, FOIA, and all the other wrap-around costs
• Monitoring of allowable expenses that do not need council approval

How does your personal and professional experience make you the best candidate for the office you are seeking?

My background affords me to bring a unique blend of technical approach and creative perspectives. I work professionally in a technical capacity for State Farm, but also have digital marketing skills which take advantage of my creative upbringing in creative arts.

As someone who has lived and worked in this community for almost 25 years, I have a personal understanding of the issues that matter most to residents. Whether it's concerns about public safety, housing affordability, or improving local infrastructure, I am invested in the future of Bloomington because it’s not just where I live—it’s where my family, friends, and neighbors call home. I have seen firsthand the challenges our community faces, and I’m passionate about finding practical, inclusive solutions that improve the quality of life for everyone.

I’m deeply committed to ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. As a city council member, I would work to ensure that our budget is allocated efficiently to meet the needs of our community while fostering economic growth. I understand the importance of making tough financial decisions and will always advocate for transparent processes and clear communication between city officials and residents.

My personal values of integrity, hard work, and service to others are the foundation of everything I do. As an alderman, I will bring the same level of dedication and attention to detail that I have in every aspect of my life, ensuring that I am always advocating for the best interests of our residents.
